ENERGY
SECURITY: Generating alternate and sustainable
rural livelihoods along with environment protection of the project
has been a central agenda of the organisation. The organisation
has also focused on training women’s groups in innovative
livelihoods based on renewable energy technologies such as biogas,
solar driers, lanterns etc. The need for solar driers arose from
the increase in the crop output and the women have understood the
need for renewable sources of energy.
To avoid consumption of adulterated spices the groups were trained
in preparation of good, pure quality spices which are hygienically
dried in solar driers. They have been trained in book keeping and
marketing. They are also trained in baking.
Locally available fodder grass has lead to increase in livestock
as well as vermicompost pits and biogas.
The biogas units are used in homes. Their expenditure on bottled
gas has reduced and these families do not use fuel wood which causes
indoor pollution.
The increase in Biomass can later help them to use it for fuel briquettes.
They have been now been trained in fuel briquettes out of waste
paper, biomass, coconut fiber.
